How It Works
From the moment something goes missing to the moment it is back in your hands, here is exactly what the UNICROSS Lost & Found Management System does at each stage.
Report the item
Use Report Lost Item if something of yours is missing, or Report Found Item if you have picked something up. Add a clear description, the category, where and when, and a photograph if you have one.
A Lost & Found officer reviews it
Every submission is held for moderation before it appears publicly. This keeps duplicate, joke and unsafe entries off the system, and gives the office a chance to match new found items against open lost reports.
Search and browse
Published records are searchable by keyword, category, location and status. You can also browse the Lost Items and Found Items lists directly.
Claim what is yours
On a found item that is still available you will see Claim / Request This Item. You sign in, describe the item in your own words, and give one identifying detail that is deliberately not published on the listing.
Ownership is verified
An officer compares your answer with the detail recorded by the person who handed the item in. Claims stay Pending until that check passes , nothing is released automatically.
Collect your property
Once the claim is approved the item is marked Claimed and you are contacted to collect it from the Lost & Found office. You can follow every step from your dashboard.
Why some details are kept off the listing
When a found item is handed in, the finder is asked for one detail that is not shown publicly, what is inside a wallet, the lock-screen photograph on a phone, a name written inside a book. A genuine owner can describe it; someone who has only seen the listing cannot. This is the ownership-verification step required by the system design, and it is why claims are reviewed by a person rather than approved automatically.
Contact details supplied with a report are stored in the system for the Lost & Found office and are never displayed on the public pages.
